ENLIGHTENMENT · SREE THANDUMARIYAMMAN KOVIL, YELLANALLI

Mari Habba

The annual festival of Mariamman, the village’s protecting mother goddess — the deity dressed in silk and flowers, carried through the community she watches over.

Mari Habba is the Mariamman festival at Sree Thandumariyamman Kovil, Yellanalli — the same temple that hosts the Foundation’s Thirumurugan Thirukalyanam gathering. For the festival, the deity is adorned in silk, gold, and a full canopy of marigold, rose, and jasmine, and brought before the community she is believed to protect.

The Foundation has contributed toward the festival’s chariot decoration — a small part in a much older tradition of the village coming together each year to honour its protecting mother.
